Wallbase - A huge, searchable collection of excellent wallpapers

Desktop backgrounds reflect your mood, your personality, even your hopes and dreams. No, really. That's why you need to change them frequently. But it's not necessarily safe just to go looking for them willy-nilly, since nefarious websites often use wallpaper searches to lure you to their sites. So it's nice to have some solid recommendations. This is one of those...

Sikuli - Free, picture-driven automation (Video)

This app uses screenshots to automate almost any computer task. How to explain? Here, let the developer do it:

"Sikuli is a visual technology to search and automate graphical user interfaces (GUI) using images (screenshots). The first release of Sikuli contains Sikuli Script, a visual scripting API for Jython, and Sikuli IDE, an integrated development environment for writing visual scripts with screenshots easily. Sikuli Script automates anything you see on the screen without internal API's support. You can programmatically control a web page, a desktop application running on Windows/Linux/Mac OS X, or even an iphone application running in an emulator."

If that explanation leaves you clueless, try this video:

Updating drivers can be easy or hard. The easy way is to use a utility like this one that scans your machine for outdated drivers, identifies the ones that you should update, finds the most current drivers, then downloads and applies them. What could be simpler? Not much.

Seesmic Look - A new way to dip into the "real-time web"

The old web is still useful, but if you want to know what's going on right NOW, you have to put your mouth to the firehose of the real-time web. Twitter and other social networking sites like it are up-to-the-second when it comes to what's going on in the world and in people's heads. The data being created is now too abundant to follow without some sort of interface that feeds it to you at a manageable velocity. Here's an app that does an excellent and attractive job of exactly that.

Watermark Images - Free image watermarking tool

Today I spilled some Taco Bell Fire sauce on some work papers. Had to try to clean it with water. Left water marks. Not what we're talking about here. Let's say you're a blogger and take the time to put a nice screenshot of an app on your post. You don't want somebody just coming along and taking your carefully contrived screenshot and using it for their own purposes. No way. So you do the equivalent of spitting on your food. Let's see them take it now!

Speccy - Easy to understand system info app

From the makers of CCleaner comes a sweet little beta called Speccy that provides detailed information on your system in an attractive and easy to read interface. For when you need to know what you have under the hood of your PC. Developer description:

"What's in your computer? If you're like most of us, you can probably name the processor (Intel or AMD, Celeron or Pentium), maybe how much RAM it has, and maybe how big the hard drive is.

When you go to a computer store and see all the bright shiny PCs laid out next to each other, most will have tags or stickers indicating the:

* Processor brand and model
* Hard drive size and speed
* Amount of memory (RAM)
* Graphics card
* Operating system

Two or three years later, when it comes time to upgrade your computer, that tag or sticker may be long gone. Speccy was designed as a free electronic "what's inside" sticker for your PC."
