Krento - Amazingly attractive app launcher for Windows

I'm always on the lookout for fast app launchers. No one wants to have to click on Start>All Programs, etc. But pretty is also good. This one seems to have both qualities down. (OK, I'll admit, the name isn't very catchy for English speakers, but who cares about that, right?)

QuickSYS Informer - Get the goods on your sytem's resources

Everyone ought to have an informer handy. This one will tell you all about what's going on with your system's resources. According to the developer:

It's good to keep track of your system resources so you can easily spot potential problems. For instance, say your PC is especially slow today; a quick look at your system usage may reveal that your system is running low on memory (physical or virtual). A full hard disk can be another cause of a slow PC. On another note, high network adapter usage can explain why you cannot connect to certain sites that you normally can access.

Do It Again - Automate your frequent PC tasks

Tired of repetitive PC tasks? Just tired? This handy little macro app can make things a bit easier, saving your precious yet depleted energies for more important things. Other things, anyway. Developer sez:

"Do It Again is a free and simple program that allows you to make your computer automatically perform a task for you, whenever you want.

If there is something that you do on your computer over and over, and you do it exactly the same way every time (such as backing up your pictures, checking web-based email for new messages, etc.), you can tell Do It Again how to perform that task (by doing it once yourself to create the new task). Then you can run that task whenever you want and Do It Again will automatically click the buttons and press the keyboard keys (in exactly the same way as when you created the task), while you sit back and watch the task being performed on the screen.

This is also called macro or automation software, as it allows you to record a macro, then play it back to automate the actions of that macro."

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery - when your data's goose is cooked

Computers seem magical. Press a button and amazing, wonderful, hopefully useful, things happen. It's not surprising that we forget they are machines. Like lawnmowers and microwave ovens, just more complicated. They are partly hardware, and hardware sometimes breaks. Hard-drives break. And horrors, data goes bye-bye. (Sorry, I can't bring myself to treat "data" like a plural noun, even though it technically is.)

All this being said, I will now get to my point. We need a data recovery plan!

Backup is one part of a healthy recovery plan, sure, but we also need a way to fix the problem at the source. This is where partition recovery comes in. Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software is a wonderfully intuitive solution to this, admittedly intimidating, problem. It's graphical interface makes it relatively easy to know what needs to be done and how to do it.

Partition recovery software won't be an everyday app, but when you need it, you'll be glad you have it ready to go. It not only helps recover your data from hardware issues, but from damage to your file sytems as well. Consider some of these dreaded error messages and tremble: "File not found," "File is corrupted," "Cannot access the file." With a Windows partition recovery system in place, you can deal with the problem right away.

Try it out free here.

Full disclosure: The author received a free copy of the full version in exchange for this post. Nice, huh?

If you have the need to design and generate form letters using pieces of pre-written text then this free app is for you. Developer's description:

"The Form Letter Machine is a program that will help you to write letters and emails by mixing and matching from pre-written paragraphs.

It's useful for people who regularly need to send out emails which include different components in different circumstances. For example if you field technical support requests, or if you need to reply to various inquiries, etc.

It enables you to assemble text from multiple paragraphs, each one customized for a specific type of inquiry or response. You can build your own configurations using checkboxes and radioboxes and nested groups, and then easily write new letters or respond to inquiries by checking off the components you want to include. A real-time preview allows you to view the message as it is composed. The program also supports user defined variables, which allows you to quickly personalize the template with a name or other data that is specific to the task. JumpTo - A context-menu-based launcher

I'm always on the lookout for launchers that make the steps to opening apps or web pages easier and faster. Check out this one. From the developer:

"JumpTo is a menu based launcher that holds static links to files, folders, programs, websites, and even command line commands. The links can be held inside of 4 customizable sub-menus or alternately launched through a text command. JumpTo also offers quick note taking, window management (hide and show windows), a runbox replacement with added functionality, along with other smaller less used functions like, importing the date & time to the clipboard for easy pasting and formatting the contents of the clipboard to plain text or converting a copied file or folder to its full path."

Rizone's Power Tools - An impressive array of optimization tools for Windows

I love freeware! This executable app has a nice feature set and an attractive, easy to follow interface. From the website:

"The Internet is swamped with misc. tools for optimizing, fixing, testing and tweaking Windows. Most tools will only perform specific tasks and you need to download many different tools to perform all the tasks you want to do. I spend about 2 days downloading all the tools I wanted to use to fix a computer once. That gave me the idea. How about a suite of tools that can perform all the tasks in one. I’m not speaking about a typical utility suite. Rizone’s Power Tools will be able to do almost everything except make you coffee in the morning."
