Google Browser Sync - A great way to sync browsers across computers

You're at work, using Firefox, and you remember that you need to go to a specific web site. Problem is, that particular bookmark is on your home machine. Damn. Not the end of the world, really. You can always do a new search for the URL, but who needs the hassle?

This little pain-in-the-rear scenario happens millions of times every day across America, and it's time you did something to make that number smaller. Get your browser settings synced across all your computers with Google Browser Sync.

Since I've been using it, my life has changed for the better. OK, nothing that dramatic, but it has been a nice convenience to have everything synced, and to know that every time I add a new bookmark (or remove one), the change will be automatically spread to my other machines across the city. I think it's pretty cool.

Free PDF to Word Doc Converter

That's actually the name! Another application with the cost written into its appellation. I could get used to it. The other day I saw a More-Than-You-Could-Afford-with-3-Lifetimes-of-Income Rolex. Very discouraging.

Everyone uses Adobe Acrobat to send documents these days. Too bad for the maker that people never say, "Hey, acrobat that document to me." In any case, when you receive one and want to edit it, unless you own the full Adobe Acrobat, which is quite expensive, you cannot. You could try copying and pasting the content, but you lose much of the sweet goodness of the original that way.

pdfconverter

Now there is hope for those who don't own the full Adobe program. (Hey, don't look at me, I have it.) The aptly named Free PDF to Word Doc Converter will do the job for you by extracting "text, images, shapes from PDF file to Word Doc file and preserve the layout. It can convert all the pages, or any pages range of the PDF file."

Try it out by clicking here.

Folder Marker - Colorize your folders

You may or may not know that I work a regular job. You guys don't visit my ads enough for me to make a living by blogging alone. That's right, you all suck! Sorry, I didn't really mean that. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. What I was going to say is that I work for Full Sail Real World Education as a financial aid administrator. If you go to school there, I may be the one helping you pay for it. (Why do I keep getting off track? Stop distracting me.) My point, if you'll give me a chance to make it, is that we have a different color file folder for each degree program. Film is green, Entertainment Business Masters is pink. This is a very helpful thing. So why should all your Windows folders be manilla? Who made that decision?

foldermarker

Well, here's a nice, free application that'll give you choices. It's called Folder Marker Free. (I like it that the cost is right there in the name, don't you? Like, Porche $250,000.) With this utility you can make your important stuff-folder red, your unimportant stuff-folder gray, like that. Get it here.

Perfect Keylogger - How to keep an eye on your kids

Most of us probably think of keylogger applications with fear and trepidation. What if I have one on my computer!?? What if there's someone out there who knows every last keystroke I make on my keyboard, including the passwords, and the stupid mistakes? A scary thought, yes? But this technology is not only for evil hackers. It's also for loving parents.

perfectkeylogger

Perfect Keylogger, (recommended by a friend...thanks), allows you to see exactly what your kids are doing on their computer. Some of your worst fears can easily be put to rest: Is your kid inviting Chris Hanson over to the house when you're gone? Planning a meet-up with a pervert they think is 17 but who's really a 42-year-old troglodyte? I make fun, but this stuff really isn't a joke.

Perfect Keylogger has a remote installation feature that will actually email you the file containing the log of the activities happening on the computer under surveillance. The application is available in Lite, Basic, and Full versions. Check it out here.

Clipdiary: Windows Clipboard on HGH

clipdiary

Everyone who uses a computer knows about the clipboard. I don't know what the equivalent utility is called on Macs, but that's neither here nor there. The point is, the clipboard can only remember so much for so long. That's fine for short-term memory tasks, but what happens when you need to get back to something you copied an hour ago, or even a couple of days ago? Forget it.

But here's a nice little utility app that'll remember what you've copied forever! And ever, amen. If you need to lengthen your....clipboard's memory, you should give Clipdiary a spin around the mainframe. You can acquire said app here.
