Newzie - A nice, free feed reader

I prefer stand-alone feed readers to web-based, and here's a very nice one that will cost you nary a penny. From the web site:

"Newzie is a news aggregator, which can be used to monitor RSS and ATOM formatted feeds, as well as normal webpages.

It periodically checks your subscriptions and automatically retrieves new content. It then notifies you and presents those updates.

While keeping you up-to-date with latest news, Newzie also saves your time by making things automated and easy-to-reach."

iTunes Folder Watch Beta - Allows iTunes to find and add music automatically

iTunes is generally a wonderful app, except when I find myself having to remember to add my new music to my iTunes library. For that, there's this little iTunes companion... From the web site:

"Are you frustrated that iTunes does not automatically detect new tracks in certain nominated folders and add them to the library automatically? This program does exactly that. Hotspot Shield - Protected connections at WiFi hotspots

We all love to connect to the Internet as we're out and about, whether at airport lounges or coffee lounges. But you have to know that doing so exposes your vital user names and passwords, credit card numbers, etc. to snoopers.

This is the rationale behind a free software prophylactic...Hotspot Shield. From the web site:

"Hotspot Shield creates a virtual private network (VPN) between your laptop or iPhone and our Internet gateway. This impenetrable tunnel prevents snoopers and hackers from viewing your email, instant messages, credit card information or anything else you send over the network. Hotspot Shield security application is free to download, employs the latest VPN technology, and is easy to install and use."

PrivNote - Burn after reading

Some sage advice - Don't put anything in writing you don't want the entire planet to read. How many of us have been embarrassed at best, jailed at worst because we put something in writing that made its way to the wrong set of eyes? Writing is a permanent record! Until now. PrivNote lets you send a digital note to someone that will self-destruct after it's been read.

GPU-Z - A geat way to get the goods on your graphics card

I could have used this little gem a few weeks ago. I was helping a customer get his PC back to original factory conditions by running the built-in recovery utility.
