I've had the free Beta version of Office 2007 for a few months now, and I've been very impressed. Of course, when the final release arrives the Beta will cease to work and I'll have to buy it or wallow in the olditude of Office 2003. Crikey! Why do I like the new version?
- It looks really good! The ribbons have a nice look and feel, and if you have a decent sized screen, the extra space they take up won't bother you. (See screenshots above. Click images to enlarge.)
- Once you get the hang of it, commands are easy to find. They're grouped in ribbons that hold everything you'll need to perform specific kinds of tasks.
- Format on the fly. This feature applies (temporarily) the formatting as you hover your pointer over the specific format. For example, you have a Word doc and you want to see how some of the text would look in a different font. Click on the font list and hover the pointer over a different font. The new font is applied. If you want to keep the change, just click.
- Did I mention it looks nice?
I'll definitely be getting it.
